On June 14, 2016 HP announced a worldwide voluntary safety recall and replacement program for certain models of Laptop Battery. The affected batteries were shipped with specific HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion Laptop Computers and were sold between March 2013 through August 2015  through many vendors such as Walmart and Best Buy. These batteries have been know to overheat and cause fires or burns.

Popular models include the Envy, and the 2000 series (a very popular series sold at Walmart and Best Buy), DV6 and the Pro series as well as quite a few others.

Don’t remember when you bought your laptop? If it came with Windows 8 or Windows 10 chances are you bought it during that time frame. You can check here to see if your laptop battery was affected by the recall.

This is not HP’s first battery recall. In the past they’ve recalled batteries, charge cords and even fax machines. See more HP recalls here.
